Below you will find photos from our 2010 picking. Again a very impressive turnout by our friends! We have been picking a single variety (with its polinator) on each day.
Picking in 2010 has been possibly the most difficult to date. The rain just wouldn’t stay away before or during picking, leading to slow ripening delaying the harvest and often unpleasant picking conditions.
First Weekend – Saturday
We started with some rare fine weather.
Sorting twigs from the olives before crating.
First Weekend – Sunday
Picking in the rain.
Lunch at the long, long table.
Second Weekend – Saturday
Two weeks later, another fine Saturday.
And another fine lunch.
Moving the nets.
Second Weekend – Sunday
Sunday – rain again! But the hoodies keep at it.
Margot checks the harvest (Barnea).
Third Weekend – Saturday
Another wet picking day.
Standing around watching a branch shaker do its thing.
Third Weekend – Sunday
Olive commando armed and extremely shaken.
Stunning to see how green this year’s oil looks compared to the year old oils. We’ll be looking to see how much the green fades by decanting time or as the oil ages.
Fourth Weekend – Saturday
Empty crates on the way out for picking on a fine weekend!
Ed with the branch shaker.
Fourth Weekend – Sunday
The final Sunday team was one of the largest. We also had to resort to ladders again, as many of the Barnea vertical branches were too big for the shaker’s jaw.
A tree full of kids.
